What Does a Dataset Look Like?
Imagine you are working as a junior data analyst for a small electronics store. The store records its daily sales in Excel.

Rows and Columns
Excel stores information in rows and columns. In analytics, understanding this structure is important because formulas and analysis depend on where the data is stored.
Rows
A row normally represents one observation or record.
Example: The row containing Laptop, North and 3 units is one sales record.
Columns
A column represents one variable or field.
Example: Product contains information about the product sold.

Dimensions and Measures
Data analysts often separate fields into dimensions and measures. You do not need to memorize complicated definitions yet. Just understand the basic idea.
Dimensions
Dimensions describe or categorize the data.
Measures
Measures are numerical values that can be calculated or analyzed.

Understanding Cells
Every value in Excel is stored inside a cell. A cell is identified using a column letter and row number.
